Chinguetti is a historic city founded in the 13th century in northern Mauritania. It is the seventh holy city of Islam and has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This ancient trading city has always played an important role in the culture and religion of the country and is one of the meeting places for West African pilgrims on their way to Mecca. In the libraries and museum of Chinguetti, you can admire many centuries-old manuscripts and writings. The city fulfilled a spiritual role for centuries. During my visit, the ancient books lay almost unprotected in a mud hut. I gave the friendly guard my statue.
