Mayotte is a tropical island in the Indian Ocean, located between Mozambique and Madagascar. It has been an official part of France since 1974, after separating from the Comoros, the archipelago to which it belonged. Comorians and Mahorais, the inhabitants of Mayotte, belong to the same people, with the same customs and traditions. Over the past decade, there has been a great attraction for Comorians to settle in Mayotte, as this would enable them and their descendants to become EU citizens. Just as there are many boat refugees in the Mediterranean, many try to make the crossing to Mayotte in search of prosperity and happiness. Every night, several boats moor on the idyllic beaches. Just as often, however, Comorians are forcibly returned to the Comoros, leaving children without parents behind in Mayotte. This “Tienes Algo Mio” was placed on a lookout point overlooking the ocean, as a guardian of all those who risk their lives in the hope of a better future.
